October News
October 2, 2006
It’s October, and there’s lots of news to report! First of all, we have reviews in The Dream People for Chemical Gardens, Deity, and It Came from Below the Belt. In addition, Gina Ranalli (Chemical Gardens and Suicide Girls in the Afterlife) and John Lawson (Pocket Full of Loose Razorblades) were interviewed by D. Harlan Wilson. Check out the short fiction there, too.
Kevin Dole 2 (Tangerinephant) did a reading at the Shaman Drum Book Shop in Ann Arbor, Michigan on August 25th. Here’s a photo of the event (taken by Chris Oposnow). It looks like Bradley Sands (It Came from Below the Belt) will be able to do a reading in the Boston area in November before a gore movie that's being shown at midnight at the Coolidge Theatre. And Ray Fracalossy (Tales from the Vinegar Wasteland) and his cover artist Barbara Napoli will be having a book release party that will include a showing of some of Barbara’s work on October 14. We also have several authors participating in the Bizarro Week chats October 9-13 at The Lost and the Damned, and even a few Bizarro publishers, including one from Afterbirth, so tune in all week for various chat sessions.
We are also thrilled to announce that we’ve signed Duncan Barlow for his book Super Cell Anemia, to be published in 2007. He is a professor at the University of Denver and teaches absurdity, metafiction, horror film studies, and speculative fiction classes, and was a former touring musician. He brings a new slant to Bizarro that I think you’ll enjoy. Watch for more info up in the Catalog section about Duncan and Super Cell Anemia. You will also notice that we have another of Gina Ranalli’s books coming out soon, Wall of Kiss. The book follows a woman who falls in love with one of her walls. Yes, I said she falls in love with a wall. You’re going to have to read this one to see how that turns out!
And, the cover contest for All Encompassing Trip has come to a close! The judges are making a careful evaluation, and the results will be announced soon. Thanks to all who entered!
There are lots of things going on here, in case you haven’t noticed! We are getting ready to roll out three books to end up 2006: Not Quite One of the Boys (Vincent Sakowski), Better Ways of Being Dead (Christian TeBordo) and All Encompassing Trip (Nicole Del Sesto) so keep watch here for pre-orders and release dates. And there is a full load ready for 2007 as well—take a look at the Catalog page to see them all. Stay tuned!
